February: A month of collaboration
7th March 2017
February proved to be a productive month for me, and there was a reoccurring theme of collaboration running throughout.
I took a trip to Northumberland, which provided plenty of inspiration for a new collection of scarves. The colours I found there were fresh and muted, the perfect colour palette for the start of spring. I particularly enjoy reflecting the seasons in my collections, and I hope to continue to evolve my colour ways as the seasons change.
Myself and Dorset artist and art tutor Alison C. Board are currently creating some new collaborative works. Over the past few years I have invented and perfected a method of weaving strip of paper, and this has led to collaborations with artists and photographers. To see the making process in some short videos please visit our Facebook pages, and below you can see some images of the first painting on the loom:

And to round off the collaboration theme, Walford Mill Crafts has just opened their current exhibition ‘Two Make,’ a touring show which “plots the shared output of ten pairs of established makers who have created new work together. The partnerships are diverse, ranging from life-long friends, makers working together for the first time, makers who wanted to learn new skills, and a couple working together over the pregnancy and birth of their daughter. Exploring the process of collaboration, sharing ideas, working through problems, encountering risk, and exploring uncertainty, the project responds in diverse ways to emotional connections between the makers, and their shared engagement with their creative worlds.”
It’s an inspirational exhibition, especially the sketchbooks and notes exposing the processes behind each collaboration. The exhibition is running until 23rd April.
